Heritage Week 2019

 

ACPEI is celebrating Heritage Week 2019 with a series of exhibits in honour of this year's national Heritage Week theme, Heritage: The Tie That Binds.  Two member institutions have created displays that will be available during the week of February 18, 2019.  Heritage Award ceremonies, events, and lectures are also scheduled to take place during Heritage Week.  A list of exhibits and events is available below.


Exhibits

  • City of Charlottetown Heritage Office, “On Saints and Welshmen: The Evolution of Post Secondary Education in Charlottetown”
    Location: City of Charlottetown Planning and Heritage Department storefront windows, 233 Queen Street, Charlottetown
    Available: February 19-March 22.  Photos and excerpts from the exhibit will be featured on the City’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/CityofCharlottetown/) and Twitter account (twitter.com/ChtownPE) beginning on Heritage Day (Tuesday, February 19)

  • Public Archives and Records Office,  “Let it Snow: Images of Our Island Winter”
    Location: Public Archives and Records Office, Hon. George Coles Building, 4th floor, 175 Richmond Street, Charlottetown
    Available: Starting February 19: Tuesday to Friday, 10:00am-5:00pm, and Thursday evening 6:30pm-9:00pm.  Also available as a digital display at the Public Archives and select PEI Public Library Service sites across the Island until the end of March 2019

Awards, Events, and Lectures

  • PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation Annual Heritage Awards
    Location: Beaconsfield Carriage House, 2 Kent Street (corner of West and Kent Street), Charlottetown
    Date and Time: February 19, 7:00pm-9:00pm (Storm date: February 21)

  • City of Charlottetown Heritage Awards and Lecture by Dr. Edward MacDonald
    Location: Charlottetown City Hall, 199 Queen Street, Charlottetown
    Date and Time: February 19, 12:00pm
    Note: The City's Heritage Awards honour those who work to preserve and celebrate municipal heritage.  Dr. Edward MacDonald, University of Prince Edward Island, will also present a talk entitled "The Road to UPEI: Some Reflections on Higher Education in Prince Edward Island."  All are welcome. 

  • City of Summerside Mayor's Heritage Tea
    Location: Council Chambers, 2nd Floor City Hall, 275 Fitzroy Street, Summerside
    Date and Time: February 22, 1:30pm-3:00pm
    Note: Program includes presentation of the Summerside Heritage and Culture Awards and the first public component of the project 1919: PEI Soldiers Return from the Great War with story-teller Shelley Stetson.  All are welcome to enjoy this event with great food and entertainment.
